On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11
We have too much, yet the Christmas tree had dozens of gifts under it. The first Christmas presents were also given to one who did not need anything. The magi gave Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh. (He probably would have enjoyed a rattle or a stuffed sheep toy more.) The gifts were given to honor Jesus rather than entertain him, but it still makes me think. What gift would Jesus want? Would he want me to work for world peace, or at least peace in my family? Would it be to reach out to someone in need? Maybe it would simply be to return his love? Think about it today as you go about your life. What would Jesus MOST want from you (this one who needs nothing)? And if Jesus would like that gift--is it one we can give the people around us?
