Thoughts for the Day

I Chronicles 20, II Samuel 13, 14, Mark 14:17-31

When King David heard all this, he was furious. II Samuel 13:21

It is said that King David was a man after God’s own heart. He was a great man of faith, but I’m not so sure he was a great father. The reading today shows brokenness in his family – but failure to act on David’s part. He was furious when he heard how one of his sons had raped his half sister, yet there is no indication he did anything about it. This was unfair to his daughter, led to one brother killing the other in revenge and
ultimately defiance on that brother, Absalom’s heart, to rebel against David. David had his weaknesses as we all do and his failure to take care of matters in his family hurt his children. Dear God, give me strength to deal with matters in my life—not avoid them. Give me wisdom to know when to act and when to wait. Amen.
