“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isaiah 1:18
It is a rhetorical question. God has just called his people “Sodom and Gomorrah” in verse 10. They are guilty—no question about it. I read this verse the same way as a father would say, “You wrecked my car last night, which you were not to be driving and now you think I should just buy you a new car?”
God’s people are blood stained with their own sin and they think they are good. They are hopelessly guilty. AND YET, we rejoice that what they propose does become a reality for them and for us. We are “white as snow” but only because God would send His one and only Son, Jesus, to shed his blood—to take on Himself our guilt—that He might make us holy. WOW! We were looking at eternity in the prison of hell, and God has handed us heaven on a platter.
It is this truth that brings me to my knees in worship.
