Thoughts for the Day

Everyone's Looking -- 10th Day of Christmas

Posted by Pastor Jeff Heimsoth on

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2

The magi were hopeful, but I am pretty sure they did not know exactly what they were looking for. Some say their culture had a legend of a new star seen in the sky meant a new king had been born. (Little did they know they were chasing a confluence of several planets.) So God worked through their legend, the alignment of planets (probably) and some help from the scribes in Jerusalem to lead the magi to Jesus. God is pretty amazing and somewhat surprising, for no one would have expected gentiles to show up to worship a Jewish king.
People are still looking for a king. Actually, they are looking for a savior. This Christmas we celebrate that God has led us to see Jesus too. Maybe today you could be the star that leads someone else to see Jesus as well. Be a STAR! Merry Christmas!
